Red Carnation’s impeccable five-year restoration, drawing on local experts and artisans, has reaffirmed Ashford Castle’s status as one of the most prestigious hotels in Europe – a true celebration of past, present and future.
Led by General Manager Niall Rochford, with over 20 years of service, every member at this award-winning hotel is empowered to make a difference, offering exceptionally considerate attention to detail, and a warm, Irish welcome that is world-famous.
The Lodge at Ashford
The Lodge enjoys the feel of a relaxed rural country house hotel while being an intrinsic part of the truly remarkable Ashford Castle estate. Once home to the Guinness family, the historic estate has won countless awards and covers 350 acres of formal, manicured gardens and wild, rambling woodland rich in wildlife – all right there on our doorstep.
The Lodge was originally built in 1865 for the Estate Manager of the nearby Ashford Castle which dates right back to 1228 when it was founded by the Anglo- Norman de Burgo family, descendants of William de Burgh, a knight who settled in Ireland in 1185 and who claimed direct descent from Charlemagne.
On Sir Benjamin’s death in 1868 the estate passed to his son Lord Ardilaun who expanded the building further in the Neo-Gothic style. It was during this period that The Lodge was constructed. Providing a home for the Estate manager and guests who included fisherman and friends of the family.
Acquired in 2014, it is now part of the award -winning Red Carnation Hotels Collection and offers mellow country house hospitality, artfully combined with chic contemporary style, to discerning travellers from all over the world.
Warm Irish hospitality awaits at The Lodge at Ashford Castle. With our picturesque lakeside setting, elegant interiors, imaginative cuisine and attentive personal service, The Lodge is a chic and elegant sanctuary, just outside the charming village of Cong, in the heart of Mayo.
