Placemaking Project Celebrating lək̓ʷəŋən Artworks in Victoria, BC

The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA), together with Xwsepsum  Nation and Songhees Nation, has launched a collaborative placemaking, installing lək̓ʷəŋən artworks in the iconic Inner Harbour. Showcasing First Nations culture through art, installations include a stylized metal gate featuring a sea otter and salmon, designed by Xwsepsum artist Darlene Gait and red orca artwork, by Songhees artist Melissa McClurg. New Marine Sanctuary Designated Along California Coast

Highway 1 Road Trip covers 100 miles through San Luis Obispo County, California. On October 11, the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary, the first Tribally nominated national marine sanctuary, was designated, covering 4,543 square miles along 116 miles of coastline.
