Greetings Everyone:
Many thanks for visiting our Diversity page. This means that you are as passionate about the subject as much as I.
For those of you not familiar with Travel Classics, Diversity, equity and inclusion have been part of the Travel Classics business model since the start in 1994. We have welcomed writers from all backgrounds and all parts of the world; we have invited editors of publications with varied points of view, editors who are LGBTQ and people of color; and we have attracted sponsors who share our mission – connecting professionals in the travel publishing world.
At each conference we work to create networking and pitching opportunity by putting editors and writers together in panel discussions, one-on-one meetings and social gatherings. We offer sponsors a showcase for their destinations. To that end, TC has been successful. Attendees have found writing opportunities, editors have found reliable, professional storytellers; and sponsors have seen content on their destinations placed in prestigious print and web publications.
But we can do more. As TC moves into a post-pandemic, travel disrupted world, it is time to look at our goals with fresh eyes. In this regard, we have formed a committee to address the inclusion of more Disabled, LGBTQ+ and BIPOC participants at Travel Classics conferences, thus broadening our search for highly talented storytellers who represent the wonderfully diverse society in which we live.
We invite you --- writers, editors and sponsors --- to help in our efforts to diversify. Though our committee is full, we welcome your suggestions; we value your recommendations. There is an untapped pool of brilliant storytellers out there --- writers and speakers of every race, sexual orientation and ethnicity. We’re banking on you to help us find them.
With thanks and kind regards,
Maren
